Spatiotemporal Impacts of Urban Land Use/Land Cover Changes on Land Surface Temperature: A Comparative Study of Damascus and Aleppo (Syria)

چکیده
Monitoring the impact of changes in land use/land cover (LULC) and surface temperature (LST) is great importance environmental urban studies. In this context, study aimed to analyze dynamics LULC its on spatiotemporal variation LST two largest cities Syria, Damascus, Aleppo. To achieve this, changes, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), were calculated from multi-temporal Landsat data for period 2010 2018. The revealed significant LULC, which represented by a decrease agricultural green areas an increase bare both cities. addition, built-up decreased Aleppo increased Damascus during period. temporal spatial distribution pattern was closely related effect as well use conditions each city. This greater than where recorded higher mean LST, about 2 °C, it associated with degradation loss cover. general, there increasing trend minimum maximum negative linear relationship between NDVI confirms that can help reduce draw attention relevant departments pay more mitigating order limit LST.

Impact of urban land cover change on land surface temperature
The rapid growth in urban population is seen to create a need for the development of more urban infrastructures. In order to meet this need, natural surfaces such as vegetation are been replaced with non-vegetated surfaces such as asphalt and bricks which has the ability to absorb heat and release it later. This change in land cover is seen to increase the land surface temperature. Previous stu...
متن کاملSimulating Land Cover Changes and Their Impacts on Land Surface Temperature in Dhaka, Bangladesh
Despite research that has been conducted elsewhere, little is known, to-date, about land cover dynamics and their impacts on land surface temperature (LST) in fast growing mega cities of developing countries. Landsat satellite images of 1989, 1999, and 2009 of Dhaka Metropolitan (DMP) area were used for analysis. This study first identified patterns of land cover changes between the periods and...
متن کاملLand use and land cover spatiotemporal dynamic pattern and predicting changes using integrated CA-Markov model
Analyzing the process of land use and cover changes during long periods of time and predicting the future changes is highly important and useful for the land use managers. In this study, the land use maps in the Ardabil plain in north-west part of Iran for four periods (1989, 1998, 2009 and 2013) are extracted and analyzed through remote sensing technique, using the land-sat satellite images. T...
متن کاملA Survey of Landscape Metrics and Land-use/land-cover Structures on Urban Heat Islands Surface: A Case Study on Urmia City, Iran
Urbanization is developing unprecedentedly on a global scale. One of the chief repercussions of urbanization, caused by man-made alterations in land-use/land-cover (LULC), is the formation of urban heat islands. Albeit, differences among landscape structures and its accompanied effects on the environment are mostly neglected. Accordingly, the main objective of this study is to survey the variou...
